John Longthorn (1924-1988) was the son of Fred and Lily Longthorn of Mount Pleasant, Fred being the local postman. In 1958 John took the tenancy of Flatts Farm when his uncle, Tom Longthorn, retired, where he produced milk for the village from a small herd of 23 cows. John was a popular man, and despite having never married, got on very well with the village children whom he allowed to help around the farm. He was actually Godfather to several of them. His obituary was published the Craven Herald.
