1959 Footpath Diversion Proposal Map by Hebden Mill

In 1959, there was an extension being built at Dene Crest. At the time the footpath down Hebden Gill followed the covered culvert containing the mill race, and passed immediately to the south of Dene Crest before joining the road by the mill. There was a proposal to divert the footpath into the valley, which led to much local opposition from both the Parish Council and individuals. An official enquiry was held, and the diversion was eventually approved in 1962.

This map shows the original line of the footpath, and the diversion. You should be able to use your mouse to zoom in and out and pan round the image.
