Hebden Burials

Hebden is a township in the parish of Linton, with the parish church St Michael and All Angels being accessed on a footpath which crosses the fields to Linton Stepping Stones. Burnsall, however, was a lot closer for some living in the township, and many chose to worship at St. Wilfred's instead. In 1841 a Chapel of Ease, St. Michael's, was built in Hebden. The following is an incomplete list of all those in the burial registers of Linton and Burnsall who were recorded as being from Hebden, and a list of all entries in the Hebden burial register. Note that the township of the deceased was not always recorded.

The Linton registers are readily available from 1584 to 1910, although the very early registers are often illegible, and no mention is made of the deceased's township until 1602, and at first only occasionally. The Burnsall parish registers are available from 1813 to 1995

The Hebden Parish Register includes burials from 1842 to 1993, although there is a hiatus from 1924 to 1952 when Hebden burials were only recorded in the Linton Register. Usually, but not necessarily always, those burials conducted in Hebden during that period were positively identified. From 1893 to 1924 Hebden burials were often duplicated in both registers.
